Zahra Imran

 

 

A wonderful soul, a mother, an influencer, an entrepreneur and founder of SUP Kenya. She had raised awareness of small business and promoting them, supporting the community, and being an advocate of the less fortunate. An empath through and through, who believes in acts of kindness no matter how small. hoping to lead a chain reaction in the process. This month our Chit Chat is with Zahra Imran, who talks about herself, SUP Kenya, her morning routine, and winding down.

 

Tell us a bit about yourself, who is Zahra?

Who is Zahra, is probably one of the hardest questions to ask because I feel I am still trying to figure that out myself? Yes, I am a mother, a philanthropist, etc but those are all titles. I think Zahra is a 29-year-old girl who is trying to navigate life and do her best to help those around her while also trying to help herself grow into a better person.

 

As an advertiser and influencer, how do you select the prime time to advertise on social media?

As an advertiser, I try to post not so much based on prime time but keeping the story captivating for the day and then plugging in advertisements in between.

 

Tell us more about your experience as an influencer?

I don’t really see myself as an influencer, but since I started SUP Kenya on Instagram, I have been so amazed by the power of social media. I think businesses really need to take advantage of this free marketing tool and use other influencers to gain a larger and wider audience.

 

If one thing you would change about social media, what would it be?

If I could change one thing about social media is the negativity- the mean comments, messages, etc. I wish people could use Instagram to do good not to tear down other people or businesses. That Instagram was used to share knowledge and inspire.

 

What is SUP Kenya?

SUP Kenya is a charity organisation that offers marketing to businesses. The marketing allows us to get paid or get donations from the business. It is like CSR but with a twist. It’s a platform that promotes businesses and in return helps the less fortunate.

 

How did your SUP Kenya journey begin?

SUP Kenya began as soon as the idea came to my mind. I just took a chance and ran with it. I used Instagram to execute my idea and I am glad that I did.

 

What are the challenges you face with the charity work you do?

I have made some mistakes, but it allowed me to learn and do better as time went on. I must be cautious with the donations and people I work with. Make sure its going to the right hands and being used efficiently.

 

Is SUP KIDS a similar concept to SUP Kenya?

It is, related around children centered businesses, activities, teachers etc. I hope my daughters together can one day execute in a way that will also help others.

 

You host food and crafts markets, what do you enjoy the most?

Yes, we have hosted many pop ups and a food market fair. I love seeing the businesses make sales and connections!

 

Again in relation to the hosting of the markets, what are your pain points?

Organising alone is a lot of pressure but at the same time I love it.

 

 

 

 

Do you have a morning routine to set you for the day?

No not really, I go with the flow depending on how I feel and what needs to be done for the day.

 

What’s your go-to way of winding down after a long day?

Reading my kindle.

 

What is the one word that you want people to associate you with?

Kindness.

 

What are the challenges you face in your profession?

As a manager at Kidzania I struggle with having clients not following or liking the rules we put in place to ensure the space can be as amazing as possible for them.

 

If you were not an influencer or running SUP Kenya, what would you be doing?

I am doing all that I want too and hope to do more, very grateful. I definitely want to keep studying and also one day open a free day-care for less fortunate mothers.
