The Glow Within & The Light Around You
Chakras vs. Auras
Have you ever walked into a room and instantly felt that something was... off?
Maybe no one had said a word, but the atmosphere felt heavy. Or perhaps you've met someone for the first time and thought, "Wow, they have such calming energy."
We've all had moments like these. Whether you call it intuition, good vibes, bad vibes, or simply reading the room, many people believe we're picking up on something beyond what we can see.
That's where chakras and auras often enter the conversation.
If you're new to spirituality, these two terms can sound confusing. They get mentioned together so often that it's easy to assume they're basically the same thing.
Spoiler alert—they're not.
Think of it this way. If your body were a smartphone, your chakras would be the internal hardware and operating system, while your aura would be your Wi-Fi signal. One keeps everything running smoothly inside, and the other is what reaches out into the world.
Let's unpack both without making your brain do yoga.
So... What Exactly Are Chakras?
Imagine your body has invisible charging points.
Not the kind you plug your phone into.
Wouldn't that be handy?!
But energy centres that many ancient traditions believe influence your physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
The word chakra comes from Sanskrit and means "wheel." According to ancient Indian philosophy, these wheels constantly spin, allowing energy to flow through your body.
When they're balanced, life tends to feel... well, easier.
When they're blocked, things can feel like driving a car with the handbrake still on.
There are seven main chakras.
The Root Chakra – Your Foundation
Located at the base of your spine, this chakra is all about feeling safe, secure and grounded.
Think about moving to a new city. Everything feels unfamiliar. Your routine disappears. Suddenly you're worrying about bills, making friends and where the nearest decent coffee shop is.
That's your Root Chakra waving a little white flag.
When it's balanced, life feels stable.
When it isn't, even small problems can feel enormous.
The Sacral Chakra – Where Creativity Lives
This one's just below your belly button and is linked with emotions, creativity and joy.
Ever noticed how children can spend hours drawing dragons or building imaginary worlds without worrying whether it's "good enough"?
That's creative energy flowing freely.
Adults?
We often overthink everything.
"What if people don't like it?"
"Maybe I'm not creative."
Sound familiar?
The Solar Plexus Chakra – Your Inner Cheerleader
This chakra sits just above your stomach and is responsible for confidence.
Or, as many of us know it...
The place that disappears five minutes before giving a presentation.
We've all been there.
You practise your speech perfectly.
Then someone says, "Ready?"
Suddenly your brain packs its suitcase and leaves.
The Heart Chakra – Love Isn't Just for Rom-Coms
No surprises here.
The Heart Chakra is all about love, compassion and forgiveness.
Not just romantic love either.
It's the hug your mum gives you after a terrible day.
The friend who checks in because they've noticed you've been quiet.
The stranger who smiles when you accidentally walk into the wrong café looking for the dentist.
Yes... that actually happened to me once.
The Throat Chakra – Saying What You Actually Mean
Ever replayed a conversation in your head three hours later?
"I should've said that!"
That's the Throat Chakra's territory.
It's all about communication.
When balanced, you speak honestly without being rude.
When blocked...
You either say nothing... ...or accidentally write a five-paragraph text explaining why someone loaded the dishwasher incorrectly.
The Third Eye Chakra – Trusting Your Gut
Have you ever ignored your instincts and regretted it?
Most of us have.
Your Third Eye Chakra is associated with intuition.
It's not about predicting lottery numbers.
It's that quiet feeling that whispers,
"Maybe don't take that job."
"Call your friend."
"Something isn't quite right."
Sometimes our intuition notices things before our conscious mind catches up.
The Crown Chakra – The Bigger Picture
At the very top sits the Crown Chakra.
Think of it as your connection to purpose.
It's those moments when you're watching a sunset, standing on a mountain or listening to music that gives you goosebumps.
For a few seconds...
Life feels bigger than deadlines, laundry and forgetting where you left your keys.
Again.
So Then... What's an Aura?
Now let's step outside your body.
Your aura is believed to be an invisible field of energy surrounding you.
Imagine Pig-Pen from the Peanuts comics—but instead of a cloud of dust, picture a cloud of energy.
Hopefully a much nicer-looking one.
Some people believe they can actually see auras, I actually see them, and in COLOURS!
Others say they feel them.
Whether you believe that literally or see it as a metaphor, most of us recognise that different people seem to carry different kinds of energy.
You know the colleague who walks into work smiling on a Monday morning?
Their energy somehow makes the office brighter.
Then there's the person who sighs before they've even sat down.
You can almost hear everyone's motivation quietly leaving the room.
Aura Colours—What Do They Mean?
Working with aura readings, I often associate colours with emotional states.
A bright red aura might represent passion and determination.
Green is commonly linked with healing and compassion.
Blue often reflects calm communication.
Purple is associated with intuition and spiritual awareness.
White symbolises peace and clarity.
Do these colours permanently define someone?
Not at all.
Your mood changes.
Your thoughts change.
Your energy changes too.
Just because you're having a stressful week doesn't mean you're permanently surrounded by storm clouds.
Thank goodness.
So What's the Actual Difference?
Here's the simplest explanation.
Chakras are inside you.
Your aura surrounds you.
Imagine baking a cake.
Your chakras are the ingredients.
Your aura is the delicious smell filling the kitchen.
If something's wrong with the ingredients...
The smell probably won't be quite right either.
The same idea applies to your energy.
Balanced chakras may contribute to feeling calmer, more centred and emotionally steady—qualities that many people believe are reflected in their aura.
A Story That Changed My Perspective
A friend of mine used to laugh whenever anyone mentioned chakras.
"If crystals could solve my problems," she'd joke, "I'd just carry a bag of marbles."
Fair point.
Then life happened.
Her dad became seriously ill.
Work became overwhelming.
She barely slept.
One evening she reluctantly joined a meditation class simply because it was free.
She expected incense.
She expected chanting.
She expected awkward silence.
Instead, she found forty-five minutes where nobody expected anything from her.
She focused on breathing.
On slowing down.
On simply being.
Weeks later she admitted,
"I don't know whether my chakras opened or not... but I definitely stopped feeling like my brain was permanently running a marathon."
That's the thing.
Sometimes the labels matter less than the experience.
Another Story (with his permission): The Man Who Couldn't Switch Off
James, a client owned a successful business.
From the outside, everything looked perfect.
Inside?
He was exhausted.
His phone never stopped buzzing.
Even on holiday, he answered emails before breakfast.
Eventually, burnout caught up with him.
His wife gifted him one of the gift vouchers on offer on my website https://www.kirankaur.net/gift-vouchers . After an Aura Reading session, I introduced him to simple grounding exercises linked with the Root Chakra.
At first he rolled his eyes.
Then he kept practising.
A few months later, nothing magical had happened.
He hadn't suddenly become enlightened.
But he slept better.
He worried less.
And for the first time in years, he managed an entire Sunday without checking work emails.
His wife later joked,
"I finally got my husband back."
Sometimes that's miracle enough.
Do You Have to Believe in All This?
Absolutely not.
You don't need to believe invisible energy is flowing through your body to benefit from slowing down, breathing deeply or paying attention to your emotions.
Meditation lowers stress.
Mindfulness improves focus.
Gratitude changes perspective.
Science supports many of these practices, even if it doesn't confirm the spiritual explanations behind chakras or auras.
You can approach them as symbols rather than facts.
Or as meaningful spiritual beliefs.
Or simply as helpful reminders to take better care of yourself.
Final Thoughts
Life is busy.
We're constantly chasing deadlines, replying to messages, paying bills, remembering birthdays and wondering what's for dinner.
It's easy to forget that we need looking after too.
Whether you see chakras as energy centres or simply as useful reminders to check in with yourself...
Whether you believe auras surround every living thing or think they're a beautiful metaphor for the energy we bring into the world...
The real takeaway is the same.
Be kind to yourself.
Rest when you're tired.
Laugh often.
Spend time with people who leave you feeling lighter instead of drained.
Listen to your instincts.
And every now and then, put your phone down, step outside, take a deep breath and remember—you are more than your to-do list.
Your energy, however you choose to define it, deserves a little care too.
